SXSW 2012: Day One

Here it is, for all that want it. The review of SXSW 2012. You get the Tuesday night review in pictures, and separately in free MP3 Dropbox, a track foe every band I saw.......completely without having to do anything. If you want more...you need to send a reply and I will then send the reviews of Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. No reply and I stop pestering you.... You really should reply.... But I am biased...

Tuesday, Austin 2012. SXSW . Starts. BDRiley's Irish Pub. Here Are King Stork. Brooklyn's Strokes Meets Pavements sort of stuff. Off to a Good, not brilliant start.but it is customry, well Al and I's custom to go to BD Riley's to start SXSW whoever is on. Its a pint of cider. A seat and the starter's pistol!!!

Next on to Spills to see what the NME, The New Musical Express UK, said were the highlight of Pop Montreal, the indie Fall Festival in Canada. Here are the great Half Moon Run. Liked them. Will be big!!!.

Then onto the venue which would comfortably vie for the shittiest venue of the week. The Bat Bar to see The Apache Relay. Crap sound. Good band and dry ice playing havoc with my camera......

Same venue, loser lobes, repeated the mistake. Austin's top indie girl led psychedelic band, UME, strut their stuff somewhat muddied by the sound system. Much anticipated, I nonetheless left..

Over to Mohawks to see New Moods from New York, A boy/girl band that swallowed the Tubeway Army/Human League potion. Good.

Then the first of the break out bands that should make a lot of noise, at Mohawks , Bear In Heaven lord it up in front of a big crowd..

Al and I pop into the equivalent of a Bedsit, where we see Aussie progrockers SleepMakesWaves. Literally, we enter the venue and we are standing on stage. We see some people leaving a sofa at the side of thestage and we march on over, almost through the band to sit there. Photo of heads down no nonsense prog rock boogie complete with blurry images to follow. Great sound though. Total audience about 35 ( not age , actual attendees). A SXSW moment!!!

Finish Day One with one of , or maybe THEEE buzz band of the week , Minnepolis band Polica. In The Bat Bar again, so sound is ropey, but they are impressive. Here is an arty shot behind the band, actually taken from the street looking back in, after I have left the venue, because, I am knackered and need to go to bed.

Act of the day....the hype said Polica and Bear In Heaven, the heart said SleepMakesWaves and Half Moon Run!!

Day One SXSW 2012 is over. It is the equivalent of Christmas Eve. Excitement is high,. Expectations are enormous, but the whole thing is just starting to happen. I go to sleep smiling. If you want Days Two to Day Five, let me know... A dropbox of one song from each of these acts is on its way to you. If you want to hear a track of every band I saw, also let me know. Did I say this may have been the best SXSW of all time? Do you care? Of course you do....
