SXSW 2011: Day Three
Its now officially halfway over...
Start the day at The Stage on Sixth Street to see Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr...another pick.
Then one of my faves - saw them a few years ago here. Malajube, a great Canadian band, but they did not seem happy to be playing a tent in a car park at 12,30 in the afternoon. To be honest , like them though I do, they were crap.
Off to Rusty Spurs, and before I saw the band I went to see, there were the backing singers for Leonard Cohen, The Chapin Sisters, not bad at all.
One of the finds of the week, the wonderfully named, Madison Square Gardeners, a Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers for today. Intoxicating.
Back to the conference centre where The Head & The Heart were recording a live session for a radio station.
Then a few mile walk out of town to a stage in a coffee shop car park, Joe's Coffee Shop no less, to see The Mighty band that were my top must see pick, John Grant with backing band just for SXSW, Midlake. Wonderful.
Here I am telling the great man that he must play Ayr soon, he relies that he is going to Glasgow in April....
Back to Conference mini stage , where White Denim are rocking the joint , a sort of very m very heavy Yes.
I pop back for a few minutes rest in hotel to be met with the Diva that is Alexis Foxe playing in my foyer.......
Then over to the conference attendees private lounge. Free cocktails. Or maybe three cocktails later, John, Al and I are very relaxed...
And it is evening now. On to the official showcases. First up the Brilliant California Wives - another Must See, must be up to around 25 must sees now. No-one has disappointed ( well Malajube).
Back on to 6th Street, the human zoo, where this nice man was. I reply "yes" and move along.
It's Easy Tiger Patio where Gospel Claw are on....
But Horse Thief at the same venue, slay them.....
Next - great name, shame about the music - I Was Totally Destroying It.
It's Lustre Pearl, we are on the VIP deck and watching the great Devotchka....
Followed by the even better Phantagram....
Then Leatherbag......
UK buzz band , The Chapel Club
The gorgeous Oh Land from Norway who played maybe the most shows through afternoon parties, up to ten. Great to look at, but not so much to listen too.But great to look at.
And finally its 1.30am and The Errors from Glasgow are giving it laldy.....
And here is my pal, the lead singer from Admiral Fallow, Louis.....adopting a 1920's gentleman's posing for photo stance...
Its SXSW. Its Tattoo time, and not discreet ones....
Only One Day Left....
